A: HI SALLIE : What U are seeing is a roof panel overhang of 5 to 7 inches to shed water away from walls on bldgs. without gutters. In your climate it is preferable to not have gutter because of snow and ice slides tearing them off . If that is a problem for U, just increase the wall Ht. to clear the danger zone. That does 2 things : #1 2 or more ft. higher is the cheapest part of any pre-fab one story structure. #2. the extra cubic ft. of storage space can be valuable to many potential tenants.
