Innovative new Kalzip FC facade system

   Author: Philippa Johnsson
Location: Michigan City, IN

August 3,2009, - Michigan City, IN – For every challenge there is a solution. With the introduction of its new FC façade system, Kalzip has created a solution for many challenges in both new and retrofit construction.

The new Kalzip FC façade system is designed to enhance a building’s appearance while providing these unique aspects:

* It is a bi-directional concealed fastener system that allows aluminum profiles to be installed either from the bottom up or top down, or in both directions simultaneously to speed installation.

* The system allows individual panels to be easily removed and replaced without compromising adjoining panels or the overall appearance of a structure’s façade.

* The clip connection provides extreme high wind suction resistance for the façade.

The Kalzip FC façade system installs easily and without penetrations using brackets and a modular click rail. The panels are hooked over the designated clips and pressed into place so that each panel clicks into a bracket. The clips are also available in a continuous rail format, where the clip areas are notched out to the exact spacing needed for the panel modules. The Kalzip pre-notched rail is an option that makes installation simpler and more precise by eliminating the need for installers to measure distances between individual brackets or clips.

The aluminum panels in the FC façade system are available in variable profile widths and being offered in North America without edge folding. This new wall system also offers a wide range of colors and different surfaces including stucco-embossed, Kalzip AluPlusZinc and Kalzip AluPlusPatina.

The high performance Kalzip FC façade system is ideal for new construction, and is particularly beneficial for retrofit and replacement especially in cases where portions of structures have sustained major damage.

The system is currently being applied to the exterior façade on the Louisiana Superdome, which was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The installation is being accomplished in two phases. Work on the lower portion of the Superdome’s exterior wall is scheduled for completion in August so that construction crews and equipment will not interfere with the 2009 - 2010 football season. This portion uses about 85,000 square feet of Kalzip FC façade panels. The second part of the project involves replacement of the upper, curved wall, which will use 280,000 square feet of Kalzip’s FC façade system. Completion of this portion is planned for April 2010.

Kalzip is recognized as a leading developer of tailored metal solutions for the building envelope. It specializes in the international manufacture and supply of standing seam roofing, wall cladding solutions, PV systems, and foldable options for more traditional roofs and façades. During the past 40 years more than 800 million square feet of Kalzip products have been installed worldwide on some of the most distinctive, world-famous, award winning projects.

Kalzip offers worldwide distribution of materials and services through a network of international sales offices, more than 100 mobile roll forming units, and approved and dedicated installers.
