Brentwood, N.H.−Dawn Solar Systems Inc., a manufacturer of solar thermal systems and developer of building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) thermal systems for residential, commercial, institutional and industrial structures, has announced that Englert Inc. is Dawn Solar's latest stocking authorized distributor in a network of distributors and dealers. Englert is a producer of rainware and metal roofing products and accessories.
"In the past few years, Englert has developed a strong environmental initiative that has allowed the company to take a lead role in bringing integrated sustainable technologies to the marketplace," said Bill Poleatewich, Dawn Solar's president and CEO. "I look forward to working with Englert, a company that highly values green technology and provides quality products and services."
Dawn Solar thermal collectors are installed under roofing or wall cladding, and the systems operate by collecting solar energy that is created from the sun shining on a building envelope. A glycol-protected, open or closed loop recirculating system−which can be installed on steel building framing, on top of a deck or on sheathing−transfers the solar energy to conventional heat exchangers and distribution systems that then distribute the solar energy as heat for hot water, space heating and process heating. By increasing the R-value in both roofs and walls, the building integrated thermal systems have an added bonus of collecting solar energy while simultaneously reducing cooling and heating loads in buildings. Additionally, in colder climates−or just at night−the thermal technology can be reversed to provide building and process cooling or even ice and snow melting, for instance sending warm liquid back to a snow-covered roof to melt snow.
Terms of the agreement include Dawn Solar providing its systems and components, including pumps, tanks and controls for water, space and process heating applications. The company also is providing its professional services to anyone who pairs its systems with Englert roofing or wall panels.
"We complement our solar thermal product line with our solar back-office services," Poleatewich said. "Pre-sale, a customer benefits from our holistic approach to analyzing projects. Our customized project-specific reports summarize both the solar thermal and PV energy savings, as well as the favorable impact of the investment tax credit on the building envelope materials used as part of the thermal system. Post sale, a customer will receive a custom pre-engineered package that includes mechanical design, material, certification of the installer group and post-installation technical support."
As part of the package, the Dawn Solar thermal system is mounted under Englert standing-seam metal roofing or wall panels. Englert's SunNet PV thin film laminates can be added and installed on the standing-seam panels, and because the PV laminates are "cooled" by the Dawn Solar thermal system, the integrated PV-thermal system produces more energy. The roofing material will radiate heat after it reaches a certain temperature, but the thermal system is self-regulating, preventing overheating and component damage when the system is inactive for extended periods of time. New roof or reroofing applications are available, and installation will be done by a network of authorized Englert solar thermal installers, certified by Dawn Solar. Distribution will be available throughout North America.
Architects, builders and contractors interested in learning more about Englert's role as a Dawn Solar distributor can call their Englert sales representative or Jerry Heininger, Englert's environmental products coordinator, at (732) 826-8614.
