MCA to Sponsor Metal Roof, Wall & Tool Demos

   Author: Cathy Szmurlo
Location: Glenview, IL

Sept. 9, 2011, GLENVIEW, Ill. - The Metal Construction Association (MCA), an organization of manufacturers and suppliers whose metal wall and roofing components are used in buildings throughout North America and the main sponsor of METALCON International, will present metal roof, wall and tool demonstrations at Booth #108 at METALCON International, October 11-13, 2011 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA.

The popular MCA Demos are designed to provide insight on the latest roofing, wall and tool technologies, with discussions and demonstrations of the latest techniques and trends. New this year:

-- Separate 45-minute tool demonstration sessions have been added to the schedule
-- A centrally located larger seating area allows attendees to easily watch and listen to the outstanding contributors
-- Some shorter demonstration sessions were added to accommodate attendee's busy schedules on the last day

In addition to one-hour audience demonstrations for residential roofs, commercial roofs and wall panel applications and 45-minute tool demonstrations each day, each of the four areas will be open for attendees to walk through during exhibit hall hours. Participants can ask questions, work with tools, and have one-on-one discussions with experts to learn more about each application. This "up close and personal" approach is designed to give more information to take back and use in the field.

Residential Roofing
MCA's residential roofing member companies will focus on the basics of roofing with metal. Emphasis will be placed on proper deck preparation prior to installation and how to waterproof roof penetrations such as ventilation pipes and skylight and chimney openings. Learn the differences of detailing with vertically applied panels versus horizontally applied shingle products.

Commercial Roofing
Commercial roof member companies of the MCA will focus on retrofit opportunities with metal. Demonstrations will include how an existing flat roof can be converted to a sloped metal roof system, how to properly address re-roofing of aged metal roof systems, as well as integration of new energy efficient technologies such as cool roofing, above sheathing ventilation and photovoltaic systems. Attendees will learn about the detailing used with natural metal materials such as copper and zinc.

Metal Wall Panel
One of the fastest growing market segments is metal wall panels. Member companies will present the latest in wall panel designs and systems. Products such as Metal Composite Materials (MCM), Insulated Metal Panels (IMP), Single Skin Systems, natural metals such as zinc and Sun Shading Systems will be shown. Learn the latest in waterproofing techniques and obtain a better understanding of rain screen principles.

Tools
The latest in tool technology used for both metal wall and roof systems will be presented. Attendees will be able to see and actually work with the latest in commercial grade tools for bending, cutting and fastening. Safety devices used with metal roof systems will also be displayed.

The following MCA member companies will be participating in the MCA Demos:

Residential Metal Roofs
ATAS International

Commercial Metal Roofs
ATAS International
Copper Development Association
McElroy Metals
Roof Hugger

Wall Panels
Flexospan
Kingspan Benchmark
Miller Clapperton
Tuschall Engineering/VM Zinc

Plus, attendees will be able to work with the latest in tool technology from several companies, coordinated by MCA member company Triangle Fastener Corp.

The MCA Live Action Demonstrations will be presented during the following times:

A mock roof and attic assembly, designed to demonstrate MCA manufacturer member's energy efficient products compared to a conventional 0.10 solar reflectance asphalt shingle roof, will be displayed at the booth. Representatives from the Metal Construction Association, as well as affiliates The Metal Initiative and the Metal Roofing Alliance, will be on hand to answer questions.

METALCON International draws nearly 8,000 designers, builders, developers, contractors, fabricators, and suppliers from more than 50 countries. Experts from 300 companies exhibit the latest products and technology and share their knowledge with attendees. METALCON's blend of new product exhibits, an education conference, and live-action demos of the latest techniques for roofing, wall, architectural and structural applications, offers market insight and ideas.
