MCA to Sponsor Roof & Tool Demonstrations at METALCON

   Author: Cathy Szmurlo
Location: Glenview, IL

September 27, 2012, GLENVIEW, Ill. - The Metal Construction Association (MCA), an organization of manufacturers and suppliers whose metal wall and roofing components are used in buildings throughout North America and the main sponsor of METALCON International, will present commercial and residential roof and tool demonstrations at Booth #142 at METALCON International, October 9-11, 2012 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont (Chicago), IL.

The popular MCA Demos are designed to provide insight on the latest roofing and tool technologies, with discussions and demonstrations of the latest techniques and trends. This year's features:

-- Separate tool demonstration sessions have been added to the schedule
-- A centrally located larger seating area allows attendees to easily watch and listen to the outstanding contributors

In addition to one-hour audience demonstrations for residential roofs, commercial roofs and tool demonstrations each day, each of the three areas will be open for attendees to walk through during exhibit hall hours. Participants can ask questions, work with tools, and have one-on-one discussions. This "up close and personal" approach is designed to give more information to take back and use in the field.

Residential Roofing
MCA's residential roof manufacturer members will focus on proper detailing of metal roof installations. The audience will learn the techniques used with natural metals (copper & zinc) as well as pre-painted aluminum and steel. Both standing seam and metal shingle installations will be displayed.

Commercial Roofing
Commercial roof manufacturer members will focus on retrofit applications with metal. See how existing flat roofs can be converted into a sloped metal roof system. Existing aged metal roof systems can be retrofitted with a new metal roof without removal of the existing roof. In addition, come see how energy efficient building solutions can be integrated into metal roof systems. The audience will gain a basic understanding of technologies such as cool roofing, above sheathing ventilation and photovoltaic systems.

Tools
See the latest tools used for installation of metal roof systems. Proper tools used for cutting, bending and fastening will be displayed. A mechanical seamer demonstration will take place to assist the audience in proper standing seam joinery. The latest in metal roofing safety equipment will also be presented.

The following MCA member companies will be participating in the MCA Demos:

Commercial Metal Roofs
* ATAS International
* McElroy Metals
* RHEINZINK America
* Roof Hugger

Residential Metal Roofs
* Copper Development Association
* McElroy Metals

Plus, attendees will be able to work with the latest in tool technology from several companies, coordinated by MCA member company Triangle Fastener Corp.

The MCA Live Action Demonstrations will be presented during the following times:

Tuesday, October 9
Commercial Roofing 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm
Tools 2 pm to 3 pm
Residential Roofing 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Wednesday, October 10
Tools 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm
Residential Roofing 2 pm to 3 pm
Commercial Roofing 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Thursday, October 11
Residential Roofing 10:15 am to 11:15 am
Commercial Roofing 11:30 am to 12:30 pm
Tools 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm

Stop by booth #334 -- adjacent to the MCA Demo area -- for technical and membership information. A mock roof and attic assembly, designed to demonstrate MCA manufacturer member's energy efficient products compared to a conventional 0.10 solar reflectance asphalt shingle roof, along with a mock up of MCA's phase change research developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory will be displayed at the booth. Detailed illustrations of the DOD demonstration project at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas featuring an integrated retrofit metal roof assembly will also be featured. Key examples of MCA's extensive technical and case history library will be on hand as well. Representatives from the Metal Construction Association will be available to answer questions.

METALCON International draws nearly 8,000 designers, builders, developers, contractors, fabricators, and suppliers from more than 50 countries. Experts from 300 companies exhibit the latest products and technology and share their knowledge with attendees. METALCON's blend of new product exhibits, an education conference, and live-action demos of the latest techniques for roofing, wall, architectural and structural applications, offers market insight and ideas.

About the Metal Construction Association
The Metal Construction Association brings together a diverse industry for the purpose of expanding the use of metal in construction through marketing, research and technology and education. Companies involved in MCA gain tremendous benefit from association activities that focus on research, codes and standards, market development, and technical programs. Driving MCA's market development efforts is The Metal Initiative (www.themetalinitiative.com), which is a program to increase the use of metal materials in construction through the education of the building and design communities about the benefits of metal.

MCA's next meeting is the 2013 Annual Meeting, set for January 27-29 in Rancho Mirage, CA.
