| Ask the Expert Questions containing 'HOMES' |
| Q: Are there any websites that show designs or plans for metal homes. I would like to put a metal home on a wooded lot in the area. I would also like to know the approximate square foot cost for a metal home.
Thanks for your help.
You may want to check out the Metal Home Digest http://www.moderntrade.com/mtcinc/mhd.htm and their links or Tri-steel Homes www.tri-steel.com . Hope thats what your looking for.
Thanks for your question
| Q: I recently lost my home in Katrina. I am interested in building a steel frame home with standard siding(not steel). Is there a one stop shopping on the internet I can go to to find companies that manufacture these homes without them looking like mini steel warehouses? |
A: Try this site for starters http://www.tri-steel.com/ then there is a publication "Metal Home Digest" may be worth checking out. http://www.moderntrade.com/mtcinc/mhd.htm
| Q: We need help please. We are a nonprofit in California trying to renovate a metal building for our animal sanctuary. We want to add doors, windows, and insulation. Our question is do the doors and windows need to be a special kind or will standard windows and doors (doors made of metal) used in homes be acceptable? Also, what type of insulation would you recommend. The building is approximately 1400 sq feet. Any advice you could give us would be greatly and sincerely appreciated. Thank you so much.
Thanks for your question. Yes metal buildings use special doors and windows. The doors will require additional steel channel framing to support them and trim to flash the opening correctly. The windows usually do not but that does depend in part where they are installed.
I would recommend getting with a qualified "pre-engineered building erector" about installing what you need. You could try the "Yellow" pages or contact the "Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Assoc" (MBCEA). A local metal building contractor may be able to help you get in contact with the right people.
The doors and windows typically are purchased from a metal building component company such as MBCI, Whirlwind Components, AEP-Span or a metal buildin...
